Current Scenario of Vaccines Eco-chain in Africa

Africa faces a significant health challenge with a high burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases. Despite being a major consumer of vaccines, the continent produces less than 1% of the world’s supply, with only nine vaccine manufacturing sites and a severe shortage of trained staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted Africa's need for better vaccine production and access. In response, African governments are focusing on developing local vaccine production capacity. The African Union aims to have Africa produce over 60% of its vaccines by 2040.

To support this goal, the Kina Foundation Bio-manufacturing Training Centre (KFBTC) will offer a 6-month training program to prepare fresh graduates for careers in Africa's biomanufacturing industry, aiming to train 2,000 professionals over the next 10 years.

Project Description

The Kina Foundation, a non-profit organization affiliated with Kinagroup Ltd., aims to address the skills gap in Africa's biopharmaceutical industry.

It focuses on training recent graduates and developing a skilled workforce through comprehensive biomanufacturing programs.

The foundation offers various educational initiatives, including workshops and continuous learning opportunities, to meet the industry's evolving needs and prepare the next generation of professionals.
